Head of Production

This is not a normal job. In fact, we’re all slightly insane. After all, we’re designing our future homes for a planet that’s going to try to kill us. But if we don’t start building sustainable homes now, then it’s not long before this planet tries to kill us all, too.

So, here’s your challenge: Join us as Head of Production at Astrea, and lead the charge on establishing the most efficient production operations the homebuilding world has ever seen. Our homes are engineered as a fully-integrated set of components, fabricated off-site and shipped ready for rapid on-site assembly. You will set up and streamline production to help transition Earth to sustainable housing, while preparing to build the homes that enable us to become multiplanetary.

You’ll have the spunk to be reading this post and thinking - game on. And you’ll have enough practical experience in process engineering to know that it will be one wild ride. You are a stellar problem solver, can reason from first principles to systematically design and improve an evolving production line, and are obsessed with efficiency. Above all, you’re excited for the day you see the first humans in our homes on Mars and know that you helped make it happen.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Establish new and evolving production lines, including engineering the supply processes, production equipment lines, and facilities
• Achieve aggressive speed and budget targets through planning and execution of lean manufacturing approaches
• Manage project execution and ongoing optimization to ensure that cost effective, robust, and reusable processes and equipment are implemented
• Conduct design for manufacturing reviews with design and engineering teams to ensure early designs are optimized for production

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or other relevant Engineering discipline
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Experience operating in a high-volume advanced manufacturing environment
• Strong command of lean manufacturing principles and efficient logistics systems
• Proficiency in developing standard operating procedures and maintenance procedures
• Experience with line layout and optimization
• Experience with 3D CAD and Simulation tools (CATIA, SolidWorks)
• Proficiency with MRP, SQL, and other analytical tools for process management and improvement
• Ability to ensure that all equipment and processes comply with applicable standards, Health and Safety Laws, Acts, Regulations and Codes
• Exceptional skill in critical thinking and practical problem solving
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively and objectively
• Excellent personal time management with a proven ability to set priorities and achieve goals
• Ability to work efficiently in an extremely dynamic environment with rapidly updating requirements

You’re technically savvy and can critically analyze suppliers, including identifying emerging and unconventional opportunities. You demonstrate strong expertise in negotiating, building relationships, and working effectively with providers to meet *extremely* aggressive goals and timelines (don’t say we didn’t warn you). Most importantly, you will take pride knowing that every single part and service is getting us closer to supporting the first humans on Mars.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the end-to-end supply chain; from sourcing to planning to supplier management
• Act as the point of contact for design and manufacturing to effectively procure suitable materials and services
• Source and onboard exceptional suppliers and work alongside them to achieve optimal quality, cost, and delivery
