Head of Operations

Astronauts, Formula 1 drivers, Navy SEALs - Have you ever dreamed of working with those who push the limits of human potential?

Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to join us as Head of Operations and help create a high performance organization fit for the values and customers we stand for. You will work closely alongside the CEO in driving strategic initiatives and operations at Astrea. Your challenge will be to streamline execution of all aspects to position an early-stage startup to become world-class.

You are a mastermind at operations and have proven ability to form major goals, distill them into daily actionable plans, and execute at speed. You demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and take pride in being hard-working and dependable. You are a strong leader and will excel in building and shaping a growing team that pushes the boundaries on this planet, and the next.

There is strong potential for this role to evolve into COO.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Work closely with the CEO to shape strategies that ensure Astrea runs increasingly effectively and efficiently
* Manage day-to-day company operations, including hiring and team development, human resources, legal, and finance
* Foster strong relationships with the growing internal team, and support external relationships with customers and partners

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
* 5+ years of experience in an operations leadership role, particularly in a high-stakes environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Experience with professional athletes or elite teams is a major advantage
* Proven examples of leadership to increase operational efficacy and efficiency, especially in roles with heavy logistics
* Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships, manage teams, negotiate and resolve conflicts
* Experience handling company functions, including human resources, finance, legal, and customer relations
* Strong financial management skills, with experience developing and managing budgets
* Exceptionally strong project management skills, with the ability to quickly break down complex initiatives into logical priorities for execution
* Exceptional skill in critical thinking and practical problem solving
* Ability to work independently as well as in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively and objectively
* Excellent personal time management with a proven ability to set priorities and achieve goals
* Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in an extremely dynamic environment with rapidly updating requirements

Embedded Software Engineer

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing the cyber-physical layer that interfaces our smart home devices/sensors to our user applications. Your challenge will be to design embedded software that enables Astrea OS to securely and reliably operate in environments ranging from athlete training facilities to hotels. In other words, build like Hamilton's next win depends on you.

You will have strong experience in building embedded software for deployed devices and working knowledge of smart home communication protocols. You will demonstrate a strong first principles approach to problem solving and the ability to operate across disciplines to create reliable products. You will be comfortable taking full responsibility for the complete life-cycle of device development and working in a super fast-paced environment to bring these products to reality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Develop secure and reliable embedded software/firmware that bring Astrea homes to life
* Manage the complete embedded system development lifecycle from requirements and prototyping to manufacturing and customer deployment
* Take responsibility for project management, including schedule dependencies, deliverables, and target dates
* Provide support and ongoing testing and optimization of installed devices

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, applied mathematics and 2+ years of experience in systems-level C
* OR 4+ years of hands-on experience in systems-level C

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Fluency in C/C++
* Proficiency in writing Linux kernel code for real-time systems
* Experience with Wi-Fi, wireless MCUs/MQTT/IoT, and device APIs
* Strong skills in debugging (e.g. on GDB), performance optimization, and unit testing
* Experience shipping embedded software in products that require continuous and high reliability performance
* Exceptional skill in critical thinking and practical problem solving
* Ability to work independently as well as in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively and objectively
* Excellent personal time management with a proven ability to set priorities and achieve goals
* Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in an extremely dynamic environment with rapidly updating requirements
